KFC Moves Headquarters from Kentucky to Texas – Here’s Why
KFC’s Historic Move from Kentucky to Texas
KFC, formerly known as Kentucky Fried Chicken, is relocating its U.S. corporate headquarters from Louisville, Kentucky, to Plano, Texas, according to its parent company, Yum Brands.
Although some operations will remain in Kentucky, including the KFC Foundation, the shift marks a major corporate move for the iconic fast-food brand.
Why Is KFC Moving to Texas?
Many corporations have relocated to Texas in recent years, drawn by the state’s lower taxes, business-friendly policies, and cost advantages.
“These changes position us for sustainable growth and will help us better serve our customers, employees, franchisees, and shareholders,” said David Gibbs, CEO of Yum Brands.
The move is part of a larger corporate restructuring, where:
✔ KFC & Pizza Hut will be headquartered in Plano, Texas
✔ Taco Bell & Habit Burger Grill will remain in Irvine, California
Kentucky Reacts to KFC’s Departure
The news has sparked disappointment in Kentucky, where KFC was founded in the 1930s by Colonel Harland Sanders.
“I am disappointed by this decision, and I believe the company’s founder would be, too,” said Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear.
He also emphasized that KFC has deep cultural ties to the state:
“This company’s name starts with Kentucky, and it has marketed our state’s heritage and culture in the sale of its product.”
Despite the move, KFC remains a global powerhouse, with over 24,000 locations in 145+ countries.
Texas – A Business Magnet for Big Brands
KFC isn’t the only company to relocate to Texas. Many U.S. corporations have moved their headquarters to Texas due to its:
✔ Lower corporate taxes
✔ Affordable real estate
✔ Business-friendly environment
A report by CBRE highlights that cities like Austin, Dallas, and Plano have become hotspots for corporate migration.
